Monica also spent five years with Bayer Crop Science and Climate Corporation, where she held progressively senior leadership positions including Open Innovation Manager and Partnership Developer. During this time, she negotiated complex agreements with research institutions, commercial technology providers, and strategic collaborators while managing a global portfolio of more than 50 external partnerships supporting research, innovation, and commercialization initiatives. She collaborated extensively with legal, finance, procurement, research, and commercial teams while reporting directly to senior leadership on strategic alliance development, risk mitigation, intellectual property considerations, and business strategy. As a Registered U.S. Patent Agent and Certified Patent Valuation Analyst, she possesses rare expertise in patent prosecution, licensing negotiations, freedom-to-operate analyses, intellectual property strategy, patent landscape assessments, and commercialization planning. Throughout her career she has evaluated technology portfolios, negotiated licensing agreements, supported startup formation, and advised organizations on protecting and maximizing the value of innovation assets. As Director of Analysis and Education, she secured more than $5 million in funding through grants and strategic partnerships while leading multidisciplinary teams responsible for over twenty global initiatives focused on intellectual property management, technology transfer, and innovation policy. She earned a Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of Nottingham, a Master of Science in Plant Biotechnology for Emerging Economies from the University of Sussex, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Valencia. Earlier in her scientific career she completed postdoctoral research at both the University of California, Davis and the University of California, Berkeley, contributing to high-impact scientific discoveries published in prestigious journals including Science, Development, Genes & Development, The Plant Journal, and numerous additional peer-reviewed publications.
