Published on:

Michael A. Cacouris is a seasoned executive with over 35 years of leadership experience spanning finance, investment management, corporate restructuring, and manufacturing management. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to navigate complex financial landscapes, scale businesses, and implement strategic initiatives that drive growth and profitability. With a strong foundation in both fixed income and equity markets, Michael brings a comprehensive understanding of capital markets, corporate finance, and risk management to every role he undertakes.

Michael’s professional journey began in corporate finance at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he progressed through leadership roles in the Restructuring Group and Special Situations Proprietary Trading Group. His expertise in distressed investments, advisory services, and DIP (Debtor-in-Possession) finance positioned him as a key player in corporate restructurings, enabling him to guide businesses and creditors through financial turnarounds and Chapter 11 reorganizations.

Building on this foundation, Michael expanded his leadership role at Greenwich Capital Markets, where he managed proprietary trading operations across bank debt, bonds, equities, and convertibles. His ability to analyze risk and optimize investments earned him executive roles at Harbor Watch Capital Management, Moore Capital Management, and Foglamp Capital Management, where he led teams in US credit, equity markets, macro strategies, and volatility trading. His tenure in hedge fund management and proprietary trading has equipped him with an acute ability to assess market dynamics, manage risk, and execute strategic financial operations effectively. As an example of out-of-the-box thinking, Michael led his group at Greenwich and Harbor Watch to generate outsized returns during the GFC of 2008-2010.

In addition to his expertise in financial services, Michael has also held executive leadership roles in manufacturing and technology-driven businesses, reflecting his diverse skill set and ability to drive operational efficiencies across industries. As co-CEO of Cymer, LLC, a specialty chemical manufacturer in Tennessee, he played a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s financial, human resources, and operational divisions. This role deepened his understanding of corporate operations beyond financial markets, developing his ability to manage manufacturing organizations, enhance client relationships, optimize capital allocation decisions and implement new operational strategies.

Michael also served as the interim CFO for a real estate company undergoing regulatory scrutiny, where he provided financial and operational oversight. He developed and implemented a turnaround plan, ultimately selling the property to an established developer. Prior to that, he founded Alpinefund, an independent investment entity specializing in equity and fixed income markets. These experiences have further strengthened his ability to manage diverse businesses, manage financial risk, and drive strategic decision-making at the executive level.

Beyond his executive career, Michael is an active board member, serving on the board of a technology startup and previously holding a 17-year tenure on the Municipal Council of Alpine, NJ, where he played a critical role in keeping Alpine’s local tax rate at the lowest in the State. His commitment to public service coupled with his extensive professional background positions him well to provide governance, strategic insight, and fiscal responsibility at the board level.

Michael holds a Double Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Commercial Economics from the University of Birmingham (UK) and an International Baccalaureate Diploma from the Ecole Internationale de Genève. He has also been a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers.

A passionate traveler and outdoor enthusiast, Michael enjoys sailing, soaring (gliders), and exploring new cultures. He summarizes his leadership philosophy as: lead with vision while providing support and guidance. He brings a strong capital allocation discipline and a global perspective, making him a sought-after executive and board advisor for organizations seeking financial and operational excellence.

Currently, Michael is actively seeking board opportunities where he can leverage his extensive expertise in corporate finance, restructuring, and capital allocation. With a track record of driving transformation and profitability, he is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to businesses in financial services, manufacturing, technology startups, and manufacturing software.
