“There’s Always Room for Improvement.”
Krishna Vemuri is a distinguished technology executive whose career spans more than twenty-seven years of engineering innovation, product development, organizational leadership, and business transformation. Throughout his professional journey, he has built a reputation for helping organizations create products that resonate with customers while simultaneously building engineering organizations capable of scaling alongside ambitious business goals. From the early days of the internet economy to today’s AI-driven technology landscape, Krishna has remained at the forefront of innovation, combining technical excellence with strategic leadership and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. His career reflects a rare ability to bridge deep engineering expertise with product intuition, allowing him to deliver solutions that are both technically sound and commercially successful.
Currently serving as Senior Engineering Manager at YouTube Music and Google, Krishna leads engineering initiatives supporting one of the world’s most influential digital platforms. In this role, he oversees teams responsible for delivering high-impact consumer experiences while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration. His responsibilities extend beyond software delivery, encompassing organizational development, leadership coaching, technical strategy, and cross-functional execution across highly complex engineering environments. Working within one of the world’s premier technology companies has further strengthened his ability to balance large-scale operational excellence with rapid innovation in a constantly evolving marketplace.
Before joining Google, Krishna held several executive engineering leadership positions that prepared him for increasingly complex organizational challenges. He served as Senior Director of Engineering at SurveyMonkey, where he played a key role during an important period of company growth, leading engineering teams responsible for products serving millions of users around the world. He later became Vice President of Engineering at Townsquared and Senior Director of Engineering at Synack, where he continued building high-performing technical organizations while driving product execution, engineering excellence, and organizational maturity. Earlier, he also contributed significantly at Looker, helping guide engineering efforts before its acquisition by Google Cloud, demonstrating his ability to thrive within fast-growing, acquisition-driven technology environments.
Krishna’s professional foundation was established through an impressive progression of engineering and technical leadership roles with organizations including Evite, Entertainment Publications and marchFIRST. During the height of the dot-com era, he helped develop large-scale e-commerce platforms for globally recognized brands such as Walgreens and Sega, gaining invaluable experience in building customer-facing digital products during one of the most transformative periods in technology history. His consulting work also exposed him to both startup ventures and Fortune 500 organizations, including Verizon, giving him a comprehensive understanding of businesses at every stage of growth.
One of Krishna’s greatest strengths lies in his exceptional product sense and his ability to identify and refine product-market fit. Rather than approaching engineering as simply a technical discipline, he consistently views technology through the lens of customer value, business impact, and long-term scalability. Throughout his career, he has worked across consumer applications, enterprise software, cloud platforms, infrastructure engineering, e-commerce, financial technology, and developer tools. This broad experience enables him to understand the unique challenges facing organizations across multiple industries while applying proven engineering principles that drive measurable business outcomes.
Leadership has become one of the defining characteristics of Krishna’s career. Although he began managing teams in 2007 and openly acknowledges that his earliest leadership experiences presented significant learning opportunities, he embraced those lessons to become a highly respected executive leader. Over the past fifteen years, he has successfully led organizations ranging from approximately fifty professionals to engineering teams exceeding one hundred contributors. His leadership philosophy emphasizes empowerment, accountability, mentorship, and continuous learning. He believes successful organizations are built by developing exceptional people, creating environments where innovation flourishes, and encouraging individuals to grow both personally and professionally.
Krishna’s commitment to developing future leaders extends beyond the organizations where he has worked. As a volunteer mentor with Plato, he dedicated several years to supporting first-time engineering managers throughout the technology community. Remembering the challenges he faced when stepping into management for the first time, he embraced the opportunity to help others navigate similar transitions with greater confidence and success. This experience reflects his belief that leadership is measured not only by business outcomes but also by the positive impact leaders have on those they mentor and develop throughout their careers.
His academic background reflects the same commitment to lifelong learning that defines his professional philosophy. Krishna earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from Golden Gate University after completing his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College. Recognizing that technical expertise alone is insufficient for executive leadership, he later completed the prestigious Management Development program through Wharton Executive Education at The Wharton School. This combination of advanced technical education and executive business training enables him to approach complex organizational challenges from both engineering and strategic business perspectives.
Krishna’s career has also provided him with valuable international experience through collaborations and business engagements across London, Zurich, France, and Dublin. These experiences have broadened his understanding of global markets, multicultural collaboration, and international business practices. In addition to English, he speaks Hindi and Telugu, further strengthening his ability to connect with diverse teams and stakeholders across geographic and cultural boundaries. His global perspective has become an important asset in leading distributed engineering organizations and delivering products that serve international audiences.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Krishna enjoys writing in his personal journal, taking long walks, and traveling. These interests provide opportunities for reflection, creativity, and continued personal growth while reinforcing the philosophy that has guided his career for decades: “There’s always room for improvement.” Whether evaluating products, mentoring leaders, or exploring new cultures, he approaches every experience with curiosity and a desire to learn. This mindset has allowed him to continuously evolve alongside an industry defined by constant change.
Today, Krishna is actively pursuing opportunities to serve on corporate boards because he views board service as an opportunity to contribute his broad technical, operational, and leadership experience while continuing to learn from accomplished business leaders across industries. Having worked with organizations ranging from garage startups to publicly traded global technology leaders, he brings a uniquely balanced perspective that combines product strategy, engineering leadership, organizational scaling, customer-focused innovation, and executive decision-making. His ability to connect technology with business outcomes, coupled with nearly three decades of leadership experience, positions him to provide meaningful strategic guidance to organizations seeking sustainable growth and long-term competitive advantage.
