“Get ‘Er Done.”
John Krueger is a distinguished maritime executive, shipbuilding leader, and operations strategist whose career spans more than thirty-seven years at the highest levels of commercial and government shipbuilding. Throughout his professional journey, John has built a reputation for transforming complex challenges into successful outcomes while leading some of the most demanding maritime programs in North America and abroad. His extensive experience across naval construction, commercial vessel manufacturing, shipyard operations, testing, commissioning, sea trials, and vessel delivery has positioned him as one of the industry’s most respected operational leaders.
From the beginning of his career, John demonstrated an exceptional understanding of maritime manufacturing and vessel construction. His passion for shipbuilding evolved into a lifelong commitment to advancing operational excellence within the maritime sector. Over nearly four decades, he has accumulated hands-on experience in every stage of vessel development, from initial planning and bidding through construction, testing, regulatory compliance, commissioning, and final delivery. This comprehensive understanding of the shipbuilding lifecycle provides him with a unique perspective that few industry professionals can match.
John’s leadership career accelerated through progressive management roles at Marinette Marine Corporation, where he supervised major U.S. Navy and commercial vessel programs. During this period, he developed expertise in steel fabrication, production management, quality control, workforce leadership, and shipyard operations. His ability to coordinate large teams while maintaining strict quality and schedule requirements earned him increasing levels of responsibility and established the foundation for his future executive leadership roles.
As the owner and president of Precision Design Systems & Engineering, Inc., John further expanded his capabilities by providing design, engineering, manufacturing, project management, inventory control, and quality assurance services throughout the maritime industry. Operating his own business allowed him to gain valuable entrepreneurial experience while developing a deep appreciation for strategic planning, customer relationships, operational efficiency, and organizational growth. These experiences strengthened his ability to balance technical expertise with sound business leadership.
John’s reputation for operational excellence led him to BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, where he managed major new construction programs for commercial vessels operating in the Gulf of Mexico. In this role, he directed steel fabrication, module assembly, drydock operations, vessel launches, and coordination among engineering, planning, quality control, and manufacturing teams. Working closely with Lloyd’s Register, the American Bureau of Shipping, and the United States Coast Guard, he developed extensive expertise in regulatory compliance and quality assurance standards that continue to guide his leadership approach today.
His career reached another significant milestone when he joined Lockheed Martin as Senior Ship Superintendent and Project Engineer for the Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ship program. In this highly visible role, John oversaw construction activities, system light-offs, testing, sea trials, and final delivery of multiple U.S. Navy combatants. Successfully delivering nine Freedom Class vessels required extraordinary coordination between government stakeholders, shipyard personnel, engineering teams, subcontractors, and naval leadership. His performance during this period further established him as a trusted leader capable of executing complex defense programs under demanding conditions.
John continued building upon his success when he joined Fincantieri Marine Systems North America as Director of Shipyard Service Operations. There, he oversaw Navy post-delivery sustainment efforts, Coast Guard support operations, commercial repair projects, vessel testing, and international maritime service programs. His responsibilities extended across domestic and international operations, including mission-critical support activities for U.S. Navy and Coast Guard assets operating in Bahrain and throughout the Middle East. His ability to manage rapid-response technical teams in remote locations showcased his adaptability and commitment to operational readiness.
His executive leadership reached its pinnacle at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, where he served as Director of Manufacturing Production and ultimately Chief of Shipyard Operations. Leading a workforce of approximately 1,600 employees, John oversaw the construction of some of the world’s most advanced naval vessels, including Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ships, Multi-Mission Surface Combatants, and the U.S. Navy’s next-generation Frigate program. Responsible for production strategy, workforce management, operational efficiency, quality standards, safety performance, and vessel delivery, he successfully guided one of the nation’s premier shipyards through a period of significant growth and strategic importance.
In 2025, John launched Krueger Maritime Consultants, LLC, marking a new chapter in his distinguished career. Through his consulting practice, he provides expert advisory services in shipyard construction, vessel repair, commissioning, testing, sea trials, production optimization, delivery operations, and strategic maritime planning. While officially retired from corporate leadership, John remains deeply engaged in the maritime industry, helping organizations solve complex operational challenges and achieve successful project outcomes. His recent accomplishments include overseeing ferry and tugboat deliveries, supporting ship repair planning for major fleets, and advising organizations on operational best practices.
Beyond his executive achievements, John is recognized as a respected educator, mentor, and industry advocate. As a Certified Technical College Instructor, he has dedicated significant effort to developing future maritime professionals and strengthening workforce capabilities. His philosophy centers on teaching individuals not only what to do, but why it matters. By fostering technical literacy, accountability, and collaboration, he has helped cultivate high-performing teams throughout his career.
John’s influence extends well beyond the shipyard. He has served as a keynote speaker at the World Ship Conference SSI and has contributed thought leadership through industry publications, including WorkBoat Magazine. His international experience spans the Middle East, Canada, Germany, Italy, and other maritime regions, providing him with a global perspective on shipbuilding, defense contracting, and industrial operations. This international exposure enhances his ability to evaluate emerging opportunities, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and provide strategic guidance at the board level.
Equally important is John’s commitment to service and community involvement. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for a local Children’s Museum and a regional Fishing Club, reflecting his dedication to giving back and strengthening the organizations that support future generations. His passion for sports, fishing, mentorship, and community engagement reflects the same values that have defined his professional success: commitment, integrity, teamwork, and perseverance.
