“Service with Substance. Leadership with Legacy.”

The Honorable Michael I. Moffett is a distinguished American public servant, educator, military officer, author, businessman, and communicator whose professional journey spans over four decades and multiple sectors. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to public leadership, principled service, and lifelong learning. From the battlegrounds of the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan to the halls of the New Hampshire State House, and from college classrooms to national media, Moffett consistently demonstrates an ability to lead, teach, inspire, and influence at the highest levels. His life’s work is defined not just by accomplishment, but by purpose—making a measurable difference in the lives of people and the organizations he serves.

Born with an innate sense of civic duty, Moffett’s early life foreshadowed the multidimensional career he’d go on to build. He pursued his education at Plymouth State University, earning a B.S. in Social Science Education and a Master of Education degree, later engaging in doctoral studies at the University of San Diego. These academic foundations would prove instrumental in shaping his dual path as an educator and communicator. His passion for leadership, paired with his deep respect for American institutions, ultimately led him to pursue a commission in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction.

As a decorated infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, LtCol Moffett’s military tenure included deployments to the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan, among other regions. His service was recognized with numerous commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. Beyond combat leadership, he excelled in operational planning, security coordination, and interagency cooperation—becoming a trusted voice in national security and defense circles. Moffett also played a pivotal role as Director of the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) Summer Prep School, helping mold the next generation of Marine officers through rigorous academic and leadership training.

Simultaneously, Moffett cultivated a career in academia and education that would span more than 25 years. As a professor and department head at New Hampshire Technical Institute and adjunct faculty at Plymouth State University, he taught management, history, and leadership to hundreds of students—often bringing real-world insights from his military and governmental service into the classroom. Known for a dynamic teaching style and unwavering mentorship, Moffett inspires critical thinking, civic engagement, and personal responsibility in future leaders across multiple disciplines.

Moffett’s influence extended far beyond the classroom. He served as a Public Information Officer and Assistant to the College President at NHTI, where he led strategic communication initiatives and stakeholder engagement. His background in media also includes experience as a cable television producer and longtime columnist and Op-Ed contributor. From 2005-25, his weekly “Sport-Thoughts” column in the Weirs Times provided sharp and entertaining commentary bridging sports, society, and public affairs. His writing, widely respected for its thoughtfulness and clarity, includes authoring the award-winning book FAHIM SPEAKS, which chronicles a fellow Marine Corps interpreter’s inspirational journey from Afghanistan to Hollywood to earn national acclaim as an actor working with Hollywood’s top people in several top films.

Entering public office was a natural progression for someone whose life had been steeped in service. As a four-term New Hampshire State Representative, Moffett became a respected legislative leader, sponsoring consequential educational measures as a member of the House Education Committee and then as Chair of the House Committee on State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs. His legislative priorities reflect his enduring values: support for veterans, education reform, public safety, and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation. He serves on multiple national legislative commissions and state policy committees, often representing New Hampshire in matters of national significance. His colleagues know him as a principled, solutions-focused lawmaker who values bipartisanship and results.

Throughout his career, Moffett has embraced leadership roles in both civic and professional organizations. He has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Campton School Board, the Ben Franklin Academy Board, and the Plymouth State Alumni Association. His affiliations with the American Legion, the VFW, the Lions Club, the Marine Corps League, and the Knights of Columbus further demonstrate a commitment to community enrichment and patriotic service. Whether supporting local schools or mentoring veterans, Moffett is a unifying figure who brings people together around common goals.

A seasoned public speaker and subject-matter expert, Moffett has presented on education policy, military strategy, leadership development, and civil-military relations at various conferences and community forums. His insights have influenced policy discussions on national security, public education, and media ethics. His appearances include both academic panels and national news segments, including a successful appearence as a contestant on Jeopardy!—a lighthearted but fitting symbol of his intellectual curiosity and competitive spirit.

Internationally, Moffett’s military assignments gave him firsthand experience with global conflict zones, foreign policy dynamics, and coalition partnerships. His work in Helmand Province and elsewhere helped support U.S. strategic objectives while enhancing local capacity building. These experiences enrich his worldview and allow him to advise on defense, diplomacy, and cross-cultural communications with authenticity and authority.
