George P. Nassos is an internationally recognized sustainability strategist, executive leader, educator, author, and board advisor whose distinguished career spans more than five decades across renewable energy, environmental management, higher education, international business, and corporate leadership. Widely respected for his ability to align sustainability with business performance, he has dedicated his career to helping organizations achieve long-term growth while creating meaningful environmental and social impact.
Dr. Nassos earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, followed by both a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University. He later completed an MBA in Finance and Operations from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, combining technical expertise with strategic business leadership.
His executive career began with International Minerals & Chemical Corporation, where he held leadership roles throughout Europe, including Germany and the Netherlands. As Managing Director of the company’s Dutch subsidiary, he successfully transformed a struggling operation into a profitable enterprise before overseeing its successful sale, demonstrating exceptional capabilities in operational turnaround, international management, and strategic growth.
Dr. Nassos later spent more than fifteen years with Waste Management and Chemical Waste Management, where he helped pioneer innovative waste-to-fuel technologies that converted non-recyclable materials into renewable fuel alternatives. His work positioned him at the forefront of practical sustainability solutions long before ESG became a global business priority.
A recognized thought leader in sustainability, Dr. Nassos has also made significant contributions to higher education. He served as Associate Industry Professor and Director of the Master’s Program in Environmental Management and Sustainability at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where the program achieved international recognition. He later served as Director of the MS in Sustainability Management Program and Executive-in-Residence at DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business.
An accomplished author and speaker, Dr. Nassos has written extensively on sustainability, renewable energy, and ESG leadership. He is the author of the Wiley-published Practical Sustainability Strategies: How to Excel in ESG and Gain a Competitive Advantage, now in its third edition, as well as 15 Life Lessons from My Immigrant Parents. Through keynote presentations, executive workshops, consulting engagements, and mentorship, he continues to influence business leaders, policymakers, and future sustainability professionals worldwide.
