Published on:

Tom Seel is a dynamic leader, financial strategist, and governance expert with over 48 years of experience spanning corporate finance, nonprofit leadership, higher education, and faith-based initiatives. His diverse expertise in financial management, investment strategy, strategic planning, entrepreneurism, and leadership development has positioned him as a trusted advisor and board member across multiple industries and global organizations. Passionate about mentorship and legacy-building, Tom is committed to guiding organizations through sustainable growth, governance excellence, and financial stewardship.
Tom has worked with many entrepreneurs. He has taught them that they need to become the ‘dumbest” person on the staff because they grew leadership giants around them and hired better people than themselves.

Throughout his career, Tom has played a pivotal role in financial strategy and investment management, overseeing multi-billion-dollar endowments, pension funds, and corporate budgets. As assistant vice president and investment officer for the Presbyterian Church (USA) Foundation, as part of the team he helped grow the organization’s endowment from $650 million to nearly $2 billion, raising $900 million in capital while ensuring annual disbursements supported the mission. His tenure on the investment committee, insurance committee, and Trust Company Board of Guidestone Financial Resources further reinforced his reputation as a high-level financial strategist, managing assets exceeding $13.5 billion for 200,000 clients worldwide.

In addition to finance, Tom has extensive board and governance experience, serving as finance chair, secretary, treasurer, and board member for numerous organizations. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding nonprofit operations, implementing strong compliance frameworks, and developing high-impact fundraising strategies. More recently during the five years surrounding the pandemic, as executive director of Multiply222 Network, he successfully grew the organization’s budget from $3.8 million to over $10.0 million, raising $6.5 million in unrestricted grants and loans while overseeing a $5.5 million school expansion project. His ability to merge visionary leadership with financial discipline has made him a sought-after board advisor and consultant.

Tom’s academic and teaching experience further underscores his versatility and thought leadership. As an online assistant professor at Liberty University and Columbia College, he has taught finance, investments, leadership, entrepreneurism, and worship studies, mentoring MBA and doctoral students in business and theology. His passion for education extends beyond the classroom, having served as a finalist judge for entrepreneurial competitions and an advisory board member for economic development initiatives.

Beyond finance and education, Tom has dedicated over 30 years to worship leadership and music ministry. A doctor of musical arts in Christian worship and piano performance, he has taught and led worship conferences nationwide, based on his published book on worship from the Book of Revelation. As a minister of music and worship, he has directed choirs, orchestras, and large-scale worship productions, including leading a 100-member choir and orchestra for live televised services. His expertise in church music, worship theology, and blended worship leadership continues to influence ministries across the country.

Tom’s international exposure further enhances his ability to navigate complex, multicultural environments. He has traveled extensively to China, the Middle East, Mexico, and North America, gaining firsthand experience in global markets, cross-cultural leadership, and theological engagement. His academic studies in French, German, Latin, and Koine Greek enables him to communicate effectively across academic, theological, and international business sectors.

As the founder and CEO of SeelGroup LLC, Tom provides consulting services in finance, governance, business strategy, and leadership development. His firm has worked with small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based institutions, guiding them through financial restructuring, operational efficiency, and executive mentorship. His ability to identify growth opportunities and implement sustainable strategies has transformed organizations seeking long-term financial health and mission alignment.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom’s volunteer service and board leadership demonstrate his commitment to community impact. He has served as treasurer and finance chair for organizations such as Hildegard House (providing Hospice for the homeless), the Louisville Rescue Mission, and the Kentucky Home Education Association, ensuring financial transparency and accountability. His passion for service extends to his work with Rotary International, Salvation Army, and Appalachian development initiatives, where he has played a key role in poverty alleviation, affordable housing, and social services. He oversaw “Creative Investments” by placing 10% of the unrestricted assets of the Presbyterian Church (USA) on five continents over 15 years.

Tom’s expertise in leadership development, strategic planning, and governance excellence makes him an ideal candidate for board service, executive advisory roles, and high-level consulting engagements. His ability to bridge the gap between financial acumen, mission-driven leadership, and faith-based impact positions him as a transformational leader in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
