“Transforming science into solutions that serve humanity.”
Dr. Ramesh V. Matur stands as a visionary force in global biopharmaceutical research and innovation, with over two decades of distinguished leadership in vaccine development, drug discovery, and strategic investment across India and the United States. A U.S. citizen with a dual base in Hyderabad and Cincinnati, he has consistently merged scientific acumen with business insight to develop transformative healthcare solutions that have touched lives on a global scale. His professional ethos is deeply rooted in the belief that science must be not only cutting-edge but also accessible, affordable, and scalable.
Dr. Matur’s journey began with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Central Food Technological Research Institute (affiliated to the University of Mysore), where he built the foundation for a career marked by intellectual rigor and practical innovation. He complemented his academic pedigree with hands-on research at globally renowned institutions, including The Ohio State University and Michigan State University, working on mechanisms of infection in immunocompromised hosts and enzyme biology. These formative years sparked a lifelong passion for molecular and applied biosciences that continues to animate his leadership.
From early roles as a senior scientist in the U.S. at Thermogen and as Principal Scientist at Pfizer (formerly Wyeth), Dr. Matur established himself as a thought leader in enzymatic biotransformations, vaccine technology, and bioprocess development. At Wyeth, Dr. Matur was trained in Drug Discovery and Development from ideation to market launch. He also underwent formal leadership training at corporate centers of Wyeth and DuPont, a foundation he later applied to build and guide high-performance teams in multiple organizations throughout his career. At Pfizer, he led cross-functional teams in drug development, authored key patents, and supported clinical trial drug substance production, gaining critical experience in GMP operations, regulatory pathways, and commercial strategies. These experiences served as a springboard into his later success integrating R&D with executive decision-making.
Returning to India, he took on the challenge of building industrial biotechnology capabilities at DuPont India, where he led a high-performing team aligned with Central R&D in Delaware. There, Dr. Matur not only built new fermentation laboratories but also earned the Charles T. Welsh Information Security Award for authoring critical IP protection guidelines. This blend of operational execution and strategic foresight would define his leadership style in the years to follow.
At Indian Immunologicals Ltd., Dr. Matur served as General Manager and Head of R&D, where he expanded the company’s human and animal vaccine pipelines, engaged with international nonprofit collaborations, and directed a team of over 60 scientists. His results-oriented leadership and rigorous performance culture led to multiple successful R&D milestones, enabling pipeline candidates to advance toward clinical evaluation. His tenure here further cemented his reputation for scaling innovation in resource-conscious environments.
Currently serving as Senior Vice President and Head of Vaccines R&D at Biological E Ltd., Dr. Matur leads a division of over 150 professionals, managing vaccine platforms that include mRNA, VLP, conjugate, and subunit technologies. Dr. Matur built the R&D team from scratch to a world-class team at Biological E and led it from concept to commercial approval of PNEUBEVAX14™, developed a next-generation PCV24, and progressed other vital vaccines into clinical development. Under his stewardship, the company launched PNEUBEVAX14™, a 14-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine that achieved over $100 million in sales within its first year and garnered the Best Biotechnology Product award from the Prix Galien Foundation in 2025. His leadership has also been pivotal in licensing novel NIH technologies and developing new candidates such as PCV24 and CORBEVAX.
Dr. Matur’s strategic reach extends beyond internal R&D. He has successfully evaluated over a dozen biotech startups for potential investment and collaboration, particularly in synthetic biology, novel therapeutics, and age-related diseases. He has led multiple due diligence assessments resulting in profitable and mission-aligned investment decisions that enhanced organizational pipelines and commercial strength. His ability to translate complex science into investable and executable opportunities is rare in the industry.
As a respected thought leader, Dr. Matur frequently contributes to international conferences and scientific panels. He has served as a moderator and keynote speaker at events like the India Vaccine Leaders Conclave and the BioPharma Leaders Forum, where his insights on mRNA vaccines, platform technologies, and targeted delivery systems are eagerly sought. With over 30 peer-reviewed publications and 9 granted patents (with many more under review), his contributions to the scientific canon are both substantial and ongoing.
Dr. Matur also brings a strong sense of governance, mentorship, and collaboration to his work. He currently serves as Chairman of an Institutional Biosafety Committee and as a review board member for the Journal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology. In previous roles, he sat on the Scientific Advisory Board for BE Life Sciences LLC. His leadership reflects a rare combination of intellectual discipline, human-centered mentorship, and systems-level vision.
At his core, Dr. Matur is a deeply committed scientist who believes in the power of collective innovation and the responsibility of leadership. His personal interests—painting and reading—mirror his thoughtful, creative, and introspective nature. As he looks to the future, Dr. Matur is motivated by a desire to serve on boards and advisory councils where his extensive background can create exponential value, both scientifically and strategically. He views board service as a means to extend his lifelong mission: advancing science to serve humanity with precision, compassion, and purpose.
