Christopher J. Kent is a seasoned government affairs and public policy executive with more than two decades of experience at the intersection of healthcare, politics, and business. With an extensive track record in biotech, strategic communications, and legislative strategy, Chris currently serves as Associate Director of State Government Affairs at Amgen. He has earned a reputation as a trusted advisor, thoughtful negotiator, and strategic leader who successfully navigates complex legislative landscapes while remaining grounded in ethics, diligence, and people-first leadership.

Over the course of his career, Chris has consistently delivered results by leveraging his strengths in strategic planning, business development, crisis communications, and project management. His work spans a wide array of industries—from biotech and healthcare to public service and campaign leadership—giving him a rare versatility. At Amgen, he has taken point on key policy battles across the Northeast, negotiating favorable tax and regulatory conditions, protecting patient access, and leading coalitions across New York, New Jersey, and New England.

Before joining Amgen, Chris served as a Government and Legislative Strategies Analyst at Pannone, Lopes, Devereaux & West, where he honed his skills in policy interpretation and client advisory. He crafted legislative strategies for high-profile clients, effectively translated complex policies into actionable recommendations, and cultivated relationships with legislators at both the state and federal levels. His deep knowledge of both the legal and political dimensions of business operations made him a critical asset to every project.

Chris’s political acumen was forged during his tenure as District Director and Director of External Affairs for U.S. Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy. Managing a 10-person team, he not only coordinated daily schedules and district-wide outreach but also advised on critical military and veteran policy matters. His role required constant engagement with stakeholders, constituents, and policymakers—perfecting his skills in clear, timely, and persuasive communication.

In earlier campaign roles, including serving as Campaign Director for Kennedy’s re-election and Finance and Compliance Officer for Sheldon Whitehouse’s Senate run, Chris showcased his talent for media relations, compliance, and leadership under pressure. His approach blends policy precision with personal integrity, always anchoring to his core value: delivering meaningful outcomes through ethical decision-making.

A two-time recipient of an “Exceeds Expectations” performance review at Amgen, Chris is recognized internally and externally for his unwavering commitment to results. He has chaired both the Rhode Island and Maine PhRMA Task Forces, a testament to his leadership within the biotech community. His ability to influence policy while preserving collaborative relationships is a hallmark of his leadership.

Chris earned his MBA from Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business and holds a BS in Marketing from Providence College. His educational foundation equips him with both commercial savvy and analytical rigor, skills he applies daily in stakeholder engagement, risk management, and policy analysis.

Outside of work, Chris’s commitment to service continues. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for the Development of Children preschool and has played a vital role in the Rhode Island American Cancer Society’s annual policy event, helping raise over $850,000. Whether coaching youth basketball or collaborating with nonprofit leaders, Chris brings energy, empathy, and excellence to every endeavor.

Today, Chris is seeking board service opportunities where he can continue using his strategic insights and public policy expertise to make a broader impact. He is particularly drawn to organizations in biotech, tech, fintech, aerospace, renewable energy, defense, and manufacturing.
