Bradley Firestone, Esq., C.P.A.: Building Trust Through Strategy, Foresight, and Integrity

Published on:

Bradley Firestone is a highly accomplished executive whose career spans more than three decades at the intersection of taxation, risk management, corporate governance, and strategic advisory. Recognized for his deep expertise and steady leadership, he has built a reputation as a trusted voice in industries ranging from sports and media to technology and entertainment. With a background that seamlessly integrates legal, financial, and operational perspectives, Bradley has consistently delivered value by anticipating risk, designing innovative tax strategies, and guiding organizations through periods of change and transformation.

Bradley’s journey began with a solid academic foundation. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law, where he focused on tax law and its critical implications for corporations and nonprofits alike. Complementing his legal training, he completed his MBA in Public Accounting at Hofstra’s Frank Zarb School of Business, equipping himself with the financial acumen necessary to bridge law, accounting, and executive decision-making. Soon after, he achieved his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential, marking the beginning of a career defined by technical rigor and ethical practice.

In the early stages of his career, Bradley joined Deloitte Tax LLP, one of the world’s most respected professional services firms. Rising to the role of Senior Tax Manager, he supervised a team of ten professionals while advising Fortune 500 corporations, tax-exempt organizations, and healthcare institutions. He was instrumental in implementing tax planning strategies for complex restructurings, joint ventures, and business combinations. Bradley’s ability to simplify complex regulations, mitigate risks, and uncover strategic opportunities quickly established him as an indispensable advisor for clients seeking clarity in a constantly evolving tax landscape.

In 2005, Bradley embarked on a transformative chapter of his career when he joined the National Football League (NFL) as Vice President of Tax and Risk Management. Over nearly two decades, he served as the League’s in-house authority on taxation and risk, overseeing all corporate-level tax filings, examinations, and insurance programs. His leadership extended beyond compliance; Bradley designed tax structures that facilitated stadium financing, negotiated partnerships in media and entertainment, and created solutions for emerging issues such as international games, private equity investments, and blockchain-related ventures. He was deeply involved in advising on collective bargaining agreements, global licensing arrangements, and tax policy development, ensuring that the NFL’s financial strategies were both innovative and sustainable.

Bradley’s work at the NFL was as expansive as it was impactful. He played a pivotal role in structuring tax and risk management strategies for 20 Super Bowls and NFL Drafts, working closely with host committees, stadium authorities, and government officials. His oversight included ensuring event cancellation coverage, cybersecurity insurance, and risk mitigation strategies during high-profile global events. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the sports world, Bradley provided critical leadership by implementing tax and risk planning measures for remote operations, employee retention, and event continuity. His insights during this period ensured that the League not only weathered the disruption but also emerged with stronger resilience measures in place.

Among his many accomplishments at the NFL, Bradley successfully navigated the League through the voluntary relinquishment of its federal tax exemption status with the Internal Revenue Service. In addition, he managed the complex legal and financial considerations surrounding the League’s concussion litigation settlements and subsequent research initiatives on player health and safety. He reduced international tax exposure through the reorganization of NFL International and introduced forward-looking strategies on transfer pricing. His expertise also guided the League in leveraging the Qualified Business Income deduction under IRC Section 199A, securing film tax credits, and navigating the evolving international tax environment.  He advised the League and its clubs on optimal tax strategies for taking on private equity investors, as well as selling a portion of its media businesses to ESPN in exchange for an equity stake.  Beyond financial impact, Bradley incorporated ESG and DEI principles into his risk management approach, helping align the NFL’s strategies with broader societal priorities.

In addition to his corporate leadership, Bradley has been a thought leader and educator in his field. He authored Loscalzo’s 2009 Guide to Tax-Exempt Organizations and the New IRS Form 990, a widely utilized resource that became essential for nonprofit organizations and tax advisors navigating revised IRS requirements. He has spoken at insurance seminars, sports industry conferences, and policy panels, and has lobbied on legislative issues impacting taxation and risk management. His voice has been a bridge between technical expertise and accessible communication, ensuring that diverse audiences—from board members to government leaders—could understand the complexities of tax law and corporate risk.

Today, Bradley leads BDF Professional Services, LLC, an independent consulting practice based in New York. As President, he offers comprehensive services in tax compliance, strategic planning, accounting, and risk management to clients across sports, media, technology, and entertainment. This entrepreneurial venture reflects his adaptability and his continued passion for guiding organizations toward secure, compliant, and forward-thinking futures. By leveraging his decades of experience, he provides tailored strategies that help companies anticipate challenges and capitalize on opportunities in fast-changing markets.

Bradley’s leadership extends beyond his professional endeavors. He previously served as a board member of Project GRAD Long Island, where he contributed to educational equity and community development. His dedication to giving back reflects his broader philosophy: leadership is not only about business outcomes but also about advancing the well-being of communities and future generations. Through his career and service, Bradley has embodied a balance of technical mastery, ethical responsibility, and a genuine commitment to creating lasting impact.

As he looks ahead, Bradley is actively seeking opportunities to serve on corporate boards, where he can apply his wealth of knowledge to guide organizations in governance, compliance, and strategic growth.
