    Published on:

Arthur Schoenewaldt, III, PE, is a distinguished engineering executive whose career spanned 49 years of multidisciplinary leadership in construction, project management, and infrastructure restoration. Most recently he served as Director of the Restoration Consulting Division at Karins Engineering. There Mr. Schoenewaldt combined technical expertise with strategic vision to deliver high-impact results across Florida’s coastal regions and beyond.

With dual degrees in Civil Engineering (B.S. and M.S.) from New York University and a Professional Engineer license in Florida, Mr. Schoenewaldt has cultivated a comprehensive understanding of structural systems, quality management, and project delivery in both the public and private sectors. His career began with Morrison Knudsen Corporation, eventually evolving into key leadership roles at Washington Group International and then Karins Engineering before retiring in 2021. Along the way, he had overseen a vast portfolio of complex projects—from marine and highway construction to power substations, hospitals, and educational institutions.

Throughout his tenure at Karins Engineering, Mr. Schoenewaldt served in several critical leadership roles. Since 2003, he played a pivotal part in developing and expanding the firm’s Restoration Division, first as Area Manager for Naples/Ft. Myers, and later assuming oversight across branch offices in Sarasota, Bonita Springs, Tampa, and Daytona Beach. In his most recent dual roles as Director of Restoration Consulting for both Karins and KWA Engineers, a Karins division, he was responsible for client development, project oversight, marketing, specification design, and field observations. His emphasis on cost containment, on-time execution, and client satisfaction set him apart as a trusted partner to commercial, healthcare, and community stakeholders.

Prior to joining Karins, Mr. Schoenewaldt built a formidable track record managing high-value institutional projects in New York. As Senior Project Manager at Washington Group International, he directed the $35 million construction of a 110,000-square-foot skilled nursing and assisted living facility. Earlier in his career, he spearheaded concurrent, multi-site capital improvement projects across major health institutions such as Woodhull Medical Center and Sea View Hospital, totaling more than $34 million in construction value. He also served as Engineering Manager on several high-profile New York City School Construction Authority projects, overseeing new school builds and the $500 million Queens Hospital Center Major Reconstruction Project—a transformational initiative involving a 542-bed acute care hospital and long-term care facilities.

Mr. Schoenewaldt’s deep technical background is matched by his dedication to professional development and community impact. He has completed advanced training in project planning, quality management, and facilitation techniques, and is approved by the State of Florida to present twelve certified continuing education courses for licensed community association managers. This combination of thought leadership, hands-on expertise, and commitment to education underscores his role not only as a builder of infrastructure, but as a mentor and advocate for the next generation of engineering professionals.
