Alex’s commitment to effective governance extends well beyond publicly traded corporations. He also served as an interim director of The We Company following the collapse of the WeWork initial public offering, helping stabilize governance during one of the most closely watched corporate restructurings in recent history. Additional advisory board service with organizations including Cresset and Ethisphere further reflects his dedication to advancing ethical leadership, governance excellence, and organizational integrity across both corporate and nonprofit sectors.
Prior to his advisory and board leadership, Alex built an exceptional executive career at General Electric, where he spent more than a decade serving in progressively larger leadership positions. Beginning as Vice President of Litigation and Legal Policy, he later became General Counsel of GE Energy, General Counsel of GE Capital, and ultimately Senior Vice President and General Counsel of General Electric. Throughout this remarkable journey, he advised three successive chief executive officers and served as the principal executive advisor to the Board of Directors on matters involving corporate governance, shareholder activism, enterprise risk, compliance, regulatory strategy, organizational integrity, and corporate transformation.
As General Counsel of General Electric, Alex led a worldwide organization of more than 5,000 professionals spanning legal affairs, government relations, compliance, environmental health and safety, and policy functions. During one of the most challenging periods in the company’s history, he helped guide General Electric through the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, significant financial crisis related litigation and investigations, and the complex restructuring of GE Capital, including the successful separation of Synchrony Financial. His leadership demonstrated an extraordinary ability to balance legal complexity with sound business judgment while preserving stakeholder confidence and supporting long term enterprise value.
Alex’s leadership capabilities extended beyond legal affairs when he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of GE’s Global Growth Organization. In this executive role, he assumed responsibility for driving commercial growth initiatives across more than 180 countries while representing General Electric before governments, regulators, strategic partners, and global customers. Under his leadership, the company achieved an unprecedented 76 billion dollars in international orders, highlighting his ability to translate governance, policy, and international strategy into measurable business results. His extensive global experience has given him valuable insight into geopolitical risk, cross border commerce, regulatory complexity, and international business development throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and emerging markets.
Following his tenure at General Electric, Alex joined Sotera Health as Senior Vice President and General Counsel during a period of significant legal and reputational uncertainty. Serving as a close advisor to Chief Executive Officer Michael Petras and the Board of Directors, he helped resolve enterprise threatening toxic tort litigation, strengthen governance practices, and enhance leadership development initiatives across the organization. His pragmatic leadership restored investor confidence, reinforced corporate stability, and further cemented his reputation as a crisis tested executive capable of guiding organizations through their most difficult challenges.
Before entering corporate leadership, Alex enjoyed an outstanding legal career with Kirkland and Ellis LLP, where he spent nearly twenty years rising from associate to partner and becoming one of the firm’s premier first chair trial lawyers. He represented major corporations in complex commercial litigation, regulatory investigations, bankruptcy proceedings, intellectual property disputes, environmental litigation, and governance related matters. Among his many accomplishments were serving as lead counsel for United Airlines during its successful bankruptcy proceedings and representing Morgan Stanley during the landmark Wall Street analyst investigations. His ability to simplify highly complex legal matters while protecting business objectives established the foundation for his later executive success.
Alex’s influence extends beyond executive leadership through his dedication to education, public policy, and thought leadership. A widely published author and sought after speaker, he has written extensively on corporate governance, organizational integrity, ESG, and the evolving responsibilities of modern boards.
