“Spend each day becoming wiser, and help others do the same.”
Stephen A. Neumeier, CFA, is a distinguished investment professional whose career spans more than four decades of disciplined financial leadership, value-driven decision-making, and unwavering commitment to client stewardship. From his earliest roles in financial services to founding and leading his own investment firms, Stephen has built a reputation as a thoughtful strategist, principled advisor, and dedicated champion of lifelong learning. His career reflects the philosophy that has guided him from the beginning: that true success comes from compounding wisdom and generously sharing that knowledge with others.
Stephen’s professional journey began after earning his BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After his last semester interning for the National Center for Appropriate Technology in Washington DC, he pursued a career in the solar industry working for Solar Resources. Unfortunately, his timing was not that good as the federal government eliminated all tax subsidies and the industry’s growth was delayed a few decades. He pivoted to the financial services industry starting at Newcombe Associates. After 2 years he thought he could run his own business and founded Lincoln Financial Group that offered life insurance and investment products and provided financial planning. During these formative years, he honed his ability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable strategies, while building meaningful relationships with executives, professionals, and high-net-worth individuals seeking trusted guidance.
He eventually decided he preferred the fee only model of compensation vs. the commission model that had more conflicts of interest. In 1991, Stephen founded LFG Capital Management, Inc. he later changed the name to Neumeier Capital Management, Inc., where he has served for more than 34 years as President and Portfolio Manager. The firm was built on a foundation of rigorous research, disciplined value investing, and a personalized approach to investment policy development. Stephen designed each client portfolio with meticulous attention to risk tolerance, return objectives, and tax considerations. His work extended well beyond managing assets—he partnered with clients to clarify long-term goals, navigate market uncertainty, and build financial confidence grounded in sound principles.
In 2003, Stephen expanded his leadership reach by founding Neumeier Partners LP, a private investment fund dedicated to applying the timeless lessons of value investing inspired by Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. As Managing Member of the General Partner, he oversaw investment selection, risk management, and long-term capital allocation, employing a research-driven philosophy focused on identifying high-quality opportunities in U.S. public markets. Under his guidance, the fund embraced a disciplined, fundamentals-based framework that emphasized patience, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of intrinsic value.
Throughout his career, Stephen has balanced technical expertise with a genuine commitment to education and mentorship. He has taught retirement and investment courses at Lincoln-Sudbury Adult Education and Massasoit Community College, generously sharing his knowledge with individuals seeking clarity and empowerment in their financial lives. His long-standing volunteer work with Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts, spanning more than two decades, further underscores his belief that knowledge is a transformative force—and one of the greatest gifts a person can offer. He served on the board of the Massachusetts College of Art & Design Foundation in the late 1990’s and helped manage the foundation’s assets from 1996 to 2025.
Stephen’s influence extends beyond investment management. He has been deeply engaged in professional and civic organizations, including serving as President of the Boston Economic Club from 2021 to 2022. His leadership in this role demonstrated his ability to foster thoughtful dialogue around economic issues, connect diverse perspectives, and promote intellectual curiosity within the business community. He is also an active member of the CFA Institute, the Boston Security Analysts Society, QWAFAFEW, and other respected associations that reinforce his dedication to professional excellence and ethical standards.
His credentials—including the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, the former Certified Financial Planner certification, and advanced professional coursework—reflect a lifelong pursuit of mastery. Yet Stephen remains deeply grounded in the belief that titles and accolades matter far less than disciplined thinking, humility, and a willingness to continually improve. His career exemplifies that the best financial leaders are those who combine analytical rigor with integrity and empathy.
Today, having transitioned to a more flexible professional schedule, Stephen is strategically seeking board and advisory opportunities where he can bring his extensive knowledge, steady leadership, and investment acumen to organizations poised for growth. He is particularly motivated by opportunities that allow him to apply more than 40 years of experience in finance, asset management, and organizational governance to help mission-driven companies navigate complexity and pursue long-term success. His expertise spans multiple industries—including finance, healthcare, biotech, and renewable energy—making him a valuable strategic partner across diverse sectors.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stephen’s personal values remain central to who he is. He is an avid squash player, a lifelong reader, and a passionate advocate for literacy and education. Whether advising a client, mentoring a student, or evaluating a complex investment opportunity, he applies the same guiding principles: be curious, be disciplined, be humble, and always work toward becoming just a little wiser than the day before.
As he looks toward the next chapter of his career, Stephen is energized by the opportunity to contribute at the board level, where strategic thinking, sound judgment, and steady leadership can meaningfully influence an organization’s direction. He brings with him not only decades of experience, but also a deep sense of purpose—an unwavering belief that his role is not simply to guide decisions, but to elevate the people and institutions he serves.
