Russell D. Robertson has been a career investment banker at some of Wall Street’s top-tier firms, and as a C-suite client advisor was regarded for his strategic acumen in global capital and m&a markets. With decades of expertise and experience in mergers and acquisitions, strategic advisory, and general corporate finance, he worked with large and small companies across several industries. Through account team and larger group leadership roles, Russ solidified his reputation as a trusted player-coach and mentor in investment banking. Outside of work he served as a secondary school trustee and investment committee chairman, managing his school’s endowment. Qualifying as an SEC financial expert and having his NACD directorship certification, he has transitioned from full-time investment banking to pursuing interests in investing, advisory, and board activities. He is working with a few emerging companies at these levels, and he actively reviews and welcomes these types of opportunities.
Russ’s career highlights include extensive CEO, C-suite and board client relationships which led to an extensive variety of both domestic and international capital-raising, m&a, and other strategic transactions, both offense and defense-related. These banking accomplishments and responsibilities along with management and leadership roles were performed at special-bracket investment banks UBS, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, and Salomon Brothers. There he led the coverage of investment banking relationships with regulated utilities including their energy, telecom, infrastructure construction, banking, and other industrial subsidiaries. He also worked with financial sponsors, covering private equity and infrastructure funds, driving strategic dialogue with those institutions. His internal appointments were to key roles in various management groups including capital commitment, MD promotion, MBA recruiting, and mentoring committees, showcasing his leadership skills and commitment to talent development.
Throughout his career, Russ demonstrated a remarkable ability to originate deals and lead client teams effectively. Notable achievements include advising on high-profile strategic, m&a, and underwriting transactions for industry leaders and sponsors such as NextEra Energy, Dominion Energy, Sempra Energy, Cinergy Corp, Xcel Energy, PPL Corp, MDU Resources, Energy Capital Partners, and many others. His strategic counsel has been instrumental in guiding clients through complex corporate finance decisions, from mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, to joint ventures, spin-offs, and other restructuring initiatives. Relying on his and his firm’s advice and expertise, some clients executed innovative capital market transactions that became transformative for them and the industry while others initiated new m&a deal structures which ultimately established new industry trends.
Russ holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology from the University of New Hampshire. As a past member of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Investment Committee at Kimball Union Academy (KUA) in Meriden, NH, he has demonstrated his dedication to education and stewardship. With FINRA licenses Series 7, 24, and 63 under his belt, Russ combines his extensive industry knowledge with a passion for driving strategic growth and value creation for his clients and partners.
