Renée’s career began in student affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where she developed a deep appreciation for the critical role that student support systems play in shaping the academic journey. Her early years as a Hall Coordinator and Student Conduct Specialist prepared her for the complexity of student life leadership, exposing her to the daily realities of student engagement, conflict resolution, and the pressing need for equity-centered approaches. From these formative experiences, she cultivated her leadership style—adaptive, responsive, and deeply student-centered.
Her transition to Kentucky State University as Director of Residence Life marked her first significant opportunity to lead organizationally, shaping residential programs that balanced fiscal responsibility with student development. From there, she rose quickly into senior leadership roles, serving as Dean of Students at the University of Pikeville, where she redefined student judicial processes, introduced retention initiatives, and empowered student government to become a dynamic force for inclusion. Each role built upon the last, strengthening her ability to design systems that not only function effectively but also reflect the lived realities of the students they serve.
At Illinois State University, Renée expanded her portfolio as Associate Dean of Students, launching the institution’s inaugural case management program and integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into every facet of student support. Her reputation as a thoughtful and strategic leader grew, leading her to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she served as Associate Vice President for Student Life. There, she oversaw multiple units, advanced accreditation priorities, and worked tirelessly to grow international student enrollment, ensuring that the university became a global hub for diverse learners.
Her tenure at Central Michigan University as Vice President for Student Affairs represented a capstone in her higher education leadership. Managing services for more than 15,000 students, Renée directed strategic planning efforts, drove retention through innovative first-generation and international student initiatives, and successfully secured millions in grants to support vulnerable student populations. Notably, she led the university’s response to the national student mental health crisis, restoring essential services, implementing telehealth, and developing cross-campus safety initiatives that placed student well-being at the center of institutional strategy.
Renée’s leadership continued at Luther College, where she was appointed Interim Dean of Student Engagement. In this role, she worked directly with the president and provost to align strategic initiatives with student success priorities. She spearheaded integrated retention, diversity, and co-curricular initiatives while restoring counseling services amidst a national shortage. Her ability to respond with empathy, foresight, and measurable solutions cemented her reputation as a resilient, visionary leader capable of guiding institutions through moments of crisis and change.
Currently, Renée serves as Assistant Director of Youth Programs & Strategic Partnerships at Ready4Life–Southern Maryland and Vice President for Legislative Affairs & Resource Development at the Tie Tuesday Foundation. These dual roles reflect the evolution of her leadership beyond campus walls and into the broader community. At Ready4Life, she co-leads a 12-month cohort program for K–postsecondary youth, designing trauma-informed curricula and forging partnerships that prepare young people for college and career. At the Tie Tuesday Foundation, she drives legislative advocacy and resource development for mentoring programs that empower boys aged 10–13. Together, these roles allow her to translate her higher education expertise into community impact, blending advocacy, education, and workforce development.
Throughout her career, Renée has been a tireless advocate for access and equity, securing more than $8 million in relief and program funding to preserve jobs, create scholarships, and build career readiness pathways. Her work has extended into innovative areas such as artificial intelligence in education, sustainability, workforce development, and housing initiatives—reflecting her belief that education must intersect with broader societal needs to truly transform lives. She has presented nationally on issues ranging from retention and enrollment to cultural competency and systemic equity, earning recognition as both a thought leader and a practitioner of meaningful change.
Renée’s educational journey underscores her professional achievements. She earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University, a Master of Education in Adult & Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri–Saint Louis, and a Bachelor of General Studies in African & African American Studies from the University of Kansas. Her academic preparation, combined with her extensive leadership experience, allows her to bring both scholarly rigor and practical wisdom to her work.
