Currently serving as the Chief Development Officer at Sol Systems, Mak leads a high-performing team in originating and advancing utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across the U.S. Under his leadership, Sol Systems has built a robust pipeline of over 7 GW of solar and storage projects while consistently meeting and exceeding KPIs. Mak has streamlined project execution processes, guiding initiatives from inception through permitting, interconnection, and financial close. He collaborates closely with enterprise teams, EPC partners, corporate off-takers, and local utilities to develop strategic revenue contracts that align with market demands and client objectives.

Prior to Sol Systems, Mak served as Senior Vice President, Head of Development at Pine Gate Renewables, where he successfully grew the company’s development pipeline to over 20 GW. He led multidisciplinary teams across project development, site origination, and grid integration while delivering 1 GW of projects to Notice-to-Proceed (NTP), including several pioneering energy storage solutions. By establishing departments such as Transmission Strategy and Development Engineering, Mak optimized operational efficiency and significantly enhanced Pine Gate’s competitive position in the market.

Mak’s expertise in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and energy market strategy was honed during his tenure as Senior Director at sPower (now AES Clean Energy). He secured over 1,500 MW of PPAs across multiple markets, combining solar and energy storage technologies to meet emerging market needs. His strategic vision contributed to sPower’s rapid portfolio growth, adding 9 GW of projects and establishing a thriving East Coast office that hired 20+ professionals within a year.

Earlier in his career, Mak served as Senior Director of Business Development at Apex Clean Energy. He played a pivotal role in negotiating PPAs, supporting renewable asset acquisitions, and delivering innovative solutions to utilities, cooperatives, and corporate clients. Mak’s leadership in transmission strategy enabled Apex to develop over 1,400 MW of wind and solar projects while building long-term partnerships and implementing scalable business strategies.

Before transitioning to the renewable sector, Mak honed his technical expertise as Manager of Congestion Hedging and Manager of Technical Studies at Southwest Power Pool. His leadership was instrumental in implementing congestion hedging mechanisms, introducing Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), and improving reliability assessment protocols for an 11-state electric grid. His experience in regulatory compliance and smart grid technologies set the foundation for his success in strategic project development.

Mak’s career began as an Engineer with Entergy, where he conducted transmission planning studies, supported grid recovery operations during major hurricanes, and provided technical guidance on new generation builds. He later expanded his skills in power system design and turnkey project execution during his tenure at Siemens and Chemtrex International.

Academically, Mak holds an MBA from the prestigious Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he focused on game theory, analytical decision modeling, and marketing strategy. He earned his MS in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mumbai.

Mak is passionate about giving back, having served as the KISAN Award Coordinator for the Save Indian Farmers NGO, a role dedicated to alleviating poverty and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
