Kent Teeters is a seasoned executive in risk finance and insurance with a distinguished career dedicated to optimizing protection and performance across large, integrated academic health systems. With decades of experience guiding risk strategy, captive governance, and insurance operations, Kent is widely respected for his deep technical knowledge, forward-thinking leadership, and collaborative approach to managing enterprise-level risk.
Most recently serving as System Director of Risk Finance & Insurance at PeaceHealth in Vancouver, WA, Kent oversaw strategic, operational, and administrative functions for a $3.5 billion health system. He led the management of over $70 million in liabilities through self-insurance and captive programs, directed a successful broker selection process, and issued the first excess policy in the system’s wholly owned Cayman captive—securing reinsurance and expanding the system’s risk financing flexibility. His leadership extended to managing and mentoring senior analysts, supporting cybersecurity collaboration, and aligning with patient safety executives and legal teams to proactively manage claims and policies.
Prior to PeaceHealth, Kent played a pivotal role at Beaumont Health in Southfield, MI, where he was appointed Vice President of Risk Finance & Insurance at the inception of the newly merged $4.6 billion system. Reporting directly to the CFO, Kent spearheaded the integration of multiple insurance programs and captive entities following the consolidation of William Beaumont Hospital, Oakwood Healthcare, and Botsford Hospital. His initiatives delivered multimillion-dollar savings through consolidation of reinsurance programs, integration of physician malpractice coverage into a captive model, and the alignment of workers’ compensation structures under a unified, self-insured framework. Kent also led the selection and implementation of a new Risk Management Information System (RMIS), streamlining data oversight and claims management across the organization.
Before the Beaumont Health merger, Kent held the role of Vice President of Risk Finance & Insurance at William Beaumont Hospital, a $2.3 billion health system where he had broad autonomy over all risk financing strategies. He developed and managed comprehensive programs using a spectrum of funding mechanisms including self-insurance trusts, captives, large deductible plans, and traditional commercial placements. Kent was instrumental in ensuring the quality and competitiveness of insurance terms through strong relationships with brokers, actuaries, and underwriters, and applied rigorous analysis to actuarial reports to inform strategy and financial planning. He also collaborated with senior leaders and external consultants to implement data-driven loss prevention strategies, reinforcing his commitment to reducing risk and improving outcomes.
Kent’s experience spans virtually every facet of risk finance in healthcare, from actuarial oversight and captive reinsurance to construction wrap-ups (OCIP/CCIP), contract negotiation, and mergers and acquisitions. He has been a trusted advisor to senior executives and legal teams and has contributed significantly to cyber risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with IT security teams. His policy development on matters such as vehicle usage and insurance compliance further reflect his hands-on, detail-oriented leadership style.
A dedicated professional beyond the workplace, Kent is an active member of the risk and insurance community and a past president of both local American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) chapters. His involvement reflects a commitment to professional excellence and peer mentorship within the industry.
Kent holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and General Business from Western Michigan University. Known for his ability to navigate complexity with clarity and precision, Kent brings a rare combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and collaborative leadership to every organization he serves.
