Jon Berens is a distinguished Medical Physicist and Entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in radiation oncology, medical radiation physics, and radiation safety. He holds a Master of Science in Medical Radiation Physics from Rosalind Franklin University and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the University of St. Francis. Jon is board-certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology and has been a certified Medical Dosimetrist since 1991.
Jon’s career has been marked by leadership roles, most notably as the Medical Physicist, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), and Director at Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center in Dixon, IL, where he worked from 1995 to 2022. During his tenure, he was responsible for critical medical physics duties, including accelerator and CT calibrations, treatment planning, and commissioning of advanced oncology programs such as Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), and a PET CT program. He also led equipment purchases, facility expansions, and complex system upgrades, including transitioning the clinic’s Mosaiq system to the Aria/Eclipse platform.
Jon has also served as Lead Medical Physicist at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL, where he played a pivotal role in developing a BrainLab-based SRS program and implementing a prostate seed implant program. His early career began at Hinsdale Hospital, where he developed his expertise in treatment planning, accelerator calibrations, and patient care.
