A proud alumnus of Parkland Community College, James earned an Associate’s Degree in Agriculture and Biology, demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning from 1976 to 2000. His academic journey was complemented by his engagement in a variety of societies and clubs, such as the University of Illinois Master Gardener program since 2001, the Master Naturalist program since 2006, Grand Prairie Friends, Illinois Audubon Society, Champaign County Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, Phi Alpha Chi Ag Club, and the Meadowbrook Community Church in Champaign. These affiliations reflect his deep-seated belief in environmental stewardship and education.

    In his professional life, James embraced roles that kept him close to his passions. As a retired janitor and food service worker, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and attention to detail. These roles allowed him to contribute meaningfully to his community while also nurturing his own interests in gardening—a skill he generously shares with others through volunteerism. James’ dedication extends beyond professional obligations as he actively participates in the Illinois Native Plant Society.
