Throughout his nearly four-decade career, Greg Butz has epitomized the art of building transformative businesses within dynamic, highly competitive industries. A visionary with an acute understanding of market disruption and consumer behavior, Greg’s professional journey reflects a remarkable fusion of strategic foresight, operational excellence, and deep-rooted passion for product innovation. His guiding principle—*“Growth is not just an outcome, it’s a discipline”—*has steered his leadership approach, shaped multimillion-dollar business units, and mentored countless professionals in the technology and consumer sectors.
Greg’s story is intrinsically linked to the evolution of Comcast NBCUniversal, where he served in progressive executive roles for over 30 years. Most recently, as President of the Consumer Products Group from 2019 to 2024, Greg helmed a $45B+ product portfolio encompassing Xfinity Internet, Mobile, and Entertainment. Under his leadership, Comcast experienced a 15% revenue surge and significant unit growth across its customer base, serving over 30 million relationships. He envisioned and implemented a three-year product revitalization plan, which reset Comcast’s entire product lineup and also introduced the “Now” challenger brand—a bold initiative targeting value-driven market segments with fresh internet, mobile, and TV services.
Previously, as President of Xfinity Mobile between 2017 and 2019, Greg launched what became one of the most successful new business units in the company’s history. Starting from concept, he architected a wireless service that achieved over $7 billion in revenue and more than $1 billion in cash flow. The model was capital-light yet strategically rich, leveraging a white-labeled Verizon network integrated with Xfinity’s hotspot infrastructure to create a seamless consumer experience. His innovative bundling of mobile and internet services not only positioned Xfinity Mobile as a compelling alternative to legacy carriers but also strengthened Comcast’s core business by lowering churn, improving Net Promoter Scores and increasing customer lifetime value.
Greg’s leadership extended into joint ventures as well. He played a pivotal role as President of the software and network partnership between Comcast and Charter, scaling the organizational wireless capability from 23 individuals to over 3,000 employees. His dual focus on talent development and scalable infrastructure laid the groundwork for sustained growth across both companies and positioned Charter to successfully enter the wireless space.
Before his pioneering work in wireless, Greg served as Executive Vice President of Marketing & Sales from 2008 to 2017. Managing a $2B budget and leading a team of over 7,000 employees, he oversaw one of the largest marketing transformations in Comcast’s history. Greg introduced the now-iconic “Xfinity” brand, which has become a household name and a symbol of quality, reliability, and service in the United States. His work in optimizing channel strategies, product mixes, and customer segmentation fundamentally reengineered the way Comcast attracted and retained customers, including the successful buildout of Comcast’s Xfinity Retail nationwide footprint.
Earlier in his career, Greg was the Senior Vice President of Product & Business Development, where he championed the introduction of Comcast’s groundbreaking “Triple Play” packaging—bundling voice, internet, and TV for enhanced customer value and retention. His leadership in software partnerships, such as GuideWorks with TV Guide and TV Works with Cox Communications, underscored his forward-looking approach to digital product delivery and user experience innovation in the pre-streaming era.
Greg’s impact has not been confined to corporate boardrooms and balance sheets. He has also contributed meaningfully to non-profit and industry boards, including roles with the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and the Cable Telecommunications & Marketing Association. In these positions, he extended his leadership to community and industry development, advocating for education, youth sports, and marketing excellence.
Academically grounded with a Bachelor of Science from Miami University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Greg has consistently applied his intellectual rigor to practical, real-world business challenges. He holds a U.S. patent for wireless family plans and has been a frequent presenter at industry events, where he shares insights on leadership, convergence, digital transformation, and product strategy. His thought leadership continues to inspire emerging executives and entrepreneurs.
Now at a reflective yet energized point in his professional life, Greg is seeking board roles where he can channel his vast experience into helping organizations grow responsibly and strategically. He is particularly passionate about supporting businesses in midcap or larger categories that operate in technology, wireless, or consumer sectors. Greg believes deeply in the value of mentorship, governance, and cross-industry collaboration as levers for sustainable performance.
Personally, Greg is an avid swimmer and reader, pursuits that mirror his professional balance of discipline and curiosity.
