    Executive Biography: Dan Barham – A Visionary Leader in Workplace Strategy and Corporate Real Estate

    Daniel Barham holds a pivotal role with the City of Calgary as a Corporate Facilities Portfolio Strategist, where he is responsible for crafting strategic portfolio plans extending over the next 12+ years. His work involves collaborating with City Service lines to identify, envision, and obtain governance approval for their Corporate Real Estate programs and projects. Daniel supports several key city functions, including Parks and Open Spaces, Fleet and Inventory, and Waste and Recycling Services. He also leads the facilities strategy for special projects such as the City Public Washrooms Strategy, the Corporate Electric Vehicle Infrastructure strategy, and a redevelopment and densification program for the primary central operations facility. Managing a pipeline valued at approximately $300 million, Daniel’s strategic oversight is critical to the sustainable development and operational efficiency of Calgary’s corporate real estate portfolio.

    As Director of Place Strategy at Lemay from August 2021 to April 2023, led the team in delivering bespoke strategic planning solutions that prioritize performance, experience, and sustainability in Canada. His focus on elevating brand experiences for spaces, properties, and portfolios underscores his commitment to exceeding expectations for both internal teams and end users.

    Before joining Lemay, Dan accumulated significant experience at TELUS, where he held various roles. As Sr. Program Manager from 2019 to 2021, Dan founded the Yara Works software platform and oversaw the TELUS Work Styles® enterprise program, which involved a substantial overhaul and relaunch that impacted over 30,000 team members. His leadership in these programs was crucial to fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture within TELUS.

    In his earlier roles at TELUS, Dan served as Real Estate Manager II – National Strategic Planner from 2017 to 2019, where he led the national portfolio strategy for over 250 property assets, and as Real Estate Manager I – Alberta Planner from 2013 to 2017, achieving significant cost reductions through optimization strategies. Additionally, Dan contributed to the company’s training facilities’ enhancement as a Facilities Manager & Project Coordinator from 2011 to 2013.

    Daniel is a seasoned Kunik Expert, bringing over a year of experience driving performance and retention through expert-led, live group discussions at Kunik · On-Call. Specializing in corporate real estate’s impact on corporate culture, business processes, and employee engagement, Daniel facilitates seminars on topics such as wellbeing, employee experience, stress and burnout, leadership development, and new team cohorts. His highest-rated Kunik Conversation, “Flex Workplace Best Practices: The Hybrid Work Conundrum,” underscores his expertise in guiding organizations like T-Mobile, YouTube, Wayfair, SiriusXM, Waymo, and Priceline towards optimizing their workplace strategies and supporting employee success.

    Dan’s career began in academia as a Foreign Lecturer at Ulsan College in South Korea, where he developed curricula and course materials for over 700 students. He also served as Deputy Warden at the Canadian Consulate in South Korea, providing consular services and support.

    Throughout his career, Dan has been a prominent speaker and thought leader, participating in panels and publishing articles on workplace strategy and hybrid work models. His insights have been featured in various forums, including the Relogix Let’s Get Real Podcast and the Interior Design Show in Toronto.

    Dan holds a degree in Urban Planning from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University. His extensive experience and strategic vision have made him a respected leader in workplace strategy and corporate real estate.
