Dennis began his career humbly, joining the Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) as an apprentice in underground transmission and distribution. This foundational experience provided him with a hands-on understanding of field operations, safety, and the operational realities of energy delivery. Over the next two decades, he progressed steadily through the organization, holding critical roles in engineering, metering, asset replacement, and energy delivery. Each role enriched his perspective, deepened his technical knowledge, and reinforced the importance of trust and collaboration at every level of the organization.
By the time Dennis assumed the role of President at BELCO in 2018, he had accumulated an exceptional breadth of expertise, from project management to grid operations to regulatory negotiation. As President, Dennis led BELCO through one of its most ambitious periods of transformation. He was instrumental in securing regulatory approval and executing a $250 million capital infrastructure plan—an unprecedented investment that modernized Bermuda’s energy infrastructure and significantly enhanced grid reliability and efficiency.
Dennis’s tenure was also marked by innovation and sustainability. Under his leadership, BELCO launched Bermuda’s first battery energy storage system (BESS), an advanced initiative that cut spinning reserve costs by approximately $2 million annually while improving system resilience. He worked closely with government agencies and the Department of Energy to deliver major renewable projects, including the “Solar Finger” utility-scale solar farm and Bermuda’s first Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which established a roadmap toward 85% renewable energy by 2035. His leadership brought together technical teams, policy makers, and community stakeholders to envision a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
Beyond operations and project execution, Dennis is a recognized leader in governance, talent development, and stakeholder engagement. In recognition of his professional integrity and societal contributions, Dennis was appointed to Bermuda’s Human Rights Commission Selection and Appointment Committee, where he helps ensure equitable representation in one of the nation’s most important public institutions. He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET) in the UK. His academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Florida International University, complemented by a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors (IoD).
