His career spans high-profile executive leadership, film distribution, production, and legal advisory roles, making him a key figure in Canada’s entertainment landscape. With a strong background in corporate governance, acquisitions, and talent development, Dan has played an integral role in financing, producing, and distributing hundreds of films that have shaped the industry.

Dan is a respected veteran of international festivals and markets, including the AFM, Sundance, and Cannes. His deal-making has bridged companies in Canada, the U.S., and Europe.

As Feature Film Executive for Ontario & Nunavut at Telefilm Canada from 2005 to 2020, Dan oversaw the development and financing of over 150 feature films. His strategic vision helped launch critically acclaimed projects, including Away From Her, which received two Academy Award nominations. Dan’s ability to identify and champion emerging talent has provided opportunities for numerous first-time and sophomore directors, solidifying his impact on Canadian cinema.

Before his tenure at Telefilm, Dan held executive leadership roles at Astral Bellevue Pathe Inc. and its successor companies Coscient, Motion, and TVA International, ultimately serving as Executive Vice-President, Distribution. In this role, he managed a $40 million division of a publicly traded company, overseeing film acquisitions, distribution, financing, and strategic partnerships. His industry foresight and negotiation skills led him to acquire award-winning films such as The Pianist, which won the Palme D’Or and three Academy Awards, and The Art of War, which received the Golden Reel Award for highest-grossing Canadian feature film.

Beyond executive leadership, Dan is a prolific executive producer. His independent company, Dandelion Entertainment, has been behind successful films such as Twist starring Nick Stahl, Everything’s Gone Green, written by Douglas Coupland, and two features in the Wesley Snipes franchise The Art of War. On behalf of Astral, he served as executive producer for films such as the horror classic Ginger Snaps and Woman Wanted, starring and directed by Kiefer Sutherland.

Dan’s contributions extend beyond film production—he has actively shaped media policy, distribution strategy, and industry governance. As an entertainment lawyer at Goodmans LLP, he advised on intellectual property rights, distribution contracts, and financing deals, ensuring the successful execution of multimillion-dollar projects. His legal expertise, combined with his business acumen, has made him a trusted advisor for media organizations, production companies, and cultural institutions.

A dedicated advocate for arts and entertainment, Dan has served on multiple boards, including Peace Arch Entertainment Group Inc., a publicly traded company, and Performing Arts Lodge Toronto, where he held the role of vice president. He currently serves as a board member and chair of the programs committee for the Canadian Artists Network, a national charitable organization supporting creative professionals. His leadership in these organizations reflects his passion for mentorship, industry development, and the welfare of artists.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dan is a published playwright, author, and thought leader in the media space. His play The Great Conway Sideshow was staged as a charitable fundraiser starring Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath. He has also authored Public Strategy and Motion Pictures, published by the Ontario Economic Council, and contributed numerous articles to The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Playback on topics ranging from tax policy to the evolution of the circus industry.

Dan’s ability to connect, inspire, and lead has been a driving force in his career. Whether advocating for artists, negotiating high-profile film deals, or shaping media policy, he remains a key influencer in the entertainment industry. His ability to navigate the intersection of business, law, and creative storytelling makes him a highly valuable asset for media organizations, production companies, and corporate boards.
