    Published on:

Chris Rapson is a force of nature at the intersection of innovation and advocacy. With over two decades of experience, she has shaped a career dedicated to using cutting-edge technology to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. A futurist, inventor, and relentless problem solver, Chris’s work spans continents and industries, blending compassion with ingenuity to drive change.

At the forefront of Chris’s career is her groundbreaking work in preventing human trafficking and also virtual reality (VR). Fascinated by the ways people and technology interact, she co-invented and developed a patent-pending device designed to combat VR sickness—a challenge that limits VR’s potential for immersive learning and innovation. Chris sees VR not just as a tool for entertainment but as a platform for empowerment. From creating virtual experiences that bring global issues to life to helping users reimagine possibilities in education and social advocacy, her approach embodies her belief in “tech for good.”

Chris’s passion for making a difference took root long before her foray into VR. In 1999, she founded Prevent Human Trafficking (PHT), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that built bridges between the U.S. and Southeast Asia to tackle the root causes of trafficking. Her work influenced major policy advancements, including the passage of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. Through study tours to Thailand and beyond, Chris gave participants firsthand insights into the complexities of trafficking and human rights, and when travel was restricted, she innovated once again, bringing these experiences to life virtually.

Her commitment to social entrepreneurship and global impact is deeply rooted in her academic journey.

Chris holds an MPS in Interactive Technology from New York University, where she was president and co-founder of the Entrepreneurs Club at the Tisch School of the Arts. She also earned an MPA in Public Administration & Social Entrepreneurship and a B.A. in Political Science from American University. Her blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and academic excellence has empowered her to lead bold initiatives across sectors.

Chris has also made a lasting impact through her leadership roles in international development and community advocacy. As Partnerships and External Relations Coordinator at Population and Development International (PDI), she championed education and poverty alleviation initiatives in Southeast Asia, including the renowned Mechai Bamboo School in rural Thailand.

Locally, her work with the Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association in Washington, D.C., underscores her commitment to fostering strong, vibrant communities.

Throughout her career, Chris has been recognized for her brilliance and dedication. Among her accolades are the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship, the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship, and the Reynolds Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship. These awards not only reflect her academic achievements but also honor her commitment to driving meaningful change in public service, education, and the arts.

A skilled communicator, Chris has spoken at international conferences, conducted workshops, and mentored the next generation of leaders. Fluent in English and proficient in Thai, she has worked across cultural boundaries to advocate for human rights, inspire action, and create impact. Her ability to translate complex ideas into accessible and motivating messages has made her a powerful voice in the fight for justice and equity.

What sets Chris apart is her ability to bring humanity to technology. Whether developing innovative VR tools, designing anti-trafficking initiatives, or working to empower rural communities, she approaches each challenge with empathy and a bold vision for the future. Her philosophy is inspired by Steve Jobs to “Make a dent in the Universe!” is not just a tagline but a way of life, driving her to blend joy with purpose in everything she does. She is inspired by the vast potential of the Spatial Comptuing of the Apple Vision Pro (AVP) and is currently reading “Make Something Wonderful” learning more in her role as an Apple Specialist in what she says is her “dream” company helping more people connect with the magic of technology in their everyday lives.

Chris Rapson’s story is one of unrelenting curiosity, innovation, and service. She is not content to accept the world as it is; she is dedicated to reimagining it. For her, technology is more than a tool—it’s a catalyst for hope, empowerment, and transformation.
