    Bill Grant is a seasoned executive with over 40 years of experience in the energy policy and community resources sectors. Throughout his career, Bill has combined a deep knowledge of public policy with a passion for renewable energy, environmental conservation, and poverty alleviation. His leadership has consistently resulted in impactful policy changes and program initiatives that have benefitted both people and the planet. With a career spanning government, nonprofit organizations, and consulting, Bill has become a recognized leader in developing and implementing sustainable energy solutions and advocating for policies that prioritize both environmental health and social welfare.

    As the current Principal at Grant Consulting, Bill continues to provide expert guidance on clean energy policies, renewable energy development, and strategic planning for organizations focused on sustainability. In this role, Bill leverages decades of expertise in advising public and private entities on best practices, with a particular focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy initiatives, and climate change mitigation strategies. His work is centered on finding practical solutions that bridge the gap between economic and environmental interests.

    Prior to his consulting work, Bill served as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Community Action Partnership (MinnCAP) from 2019 to 2023. In this capacity, he led the organization’s efforts to strengthen the capacity of 24 Community Action Agencies across the state of Minnesota. Under his leadership, MinnCAP successfully advocated for increased funding for poverty reduction programs and hosted a statewide anti-poverty conference that brought together key stakeholders from across the country. Bill’s ability to secure critical funding for low-income energy assistance programs and to lead effective advocacy initiatives was a testament to his dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable populations.

    From 2011 to 2019, Bill held the role of Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. In this role, Bill provided strategic guidance to the Governor and state legislators on key energy and telecommunications issues. His leadership was instrumental in advancing Minnesota’s renewable energy agenda, addressing energy supply reliability, and advocating for energy affordability for all citizens. One of Bill’s hallmark achievements during this time was leading the state’s response to the propane crisis of 2013-2014, during which he expanded assistance for low-income households and worked with state agencies to secure additional crisis benefits.

    Bill also played a pivotal role in the Izaak Walton League of America, where he served as Associate Executive Director for nearly 20 years. In this position, Bill directed the League’s Midwest Regional Office, leading advocacy efforts to protect natural resources and promote sustainable agricultural practices. His leadership was critical in negotiating an agreement with Minnesota’s largest utility to convert coal-fired power plants to cleaner fuels. He was also a driving force behind the passage of the Next Generation Energy Act, which established leading renewable energy and energy efficiency standards in Minnesota.

    Bill’s educational background includes a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Hamline University, where he earned the prestigious Peter Falkman Award for academic excellence. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from Macalester College. This strong academic foundation has been a cornerstone of his ability to navigate complex policy landscapes and implement effective strategies across the sectors he has served.
